Course description

Betzavta – Democracy training according to the Adam Institute methodology

Experience democracy. Understand the conflicts. Finding solutions together.

Democracy is more than a political system – it thrives on the way we interact, make decisions and resolve conflicts. This is where Betzavta comes in: The democracy training developed by the Israeli Adam Institute for Democracy and Peace strengthens democratic competences in a practical and experiential way.

On 30 October 2026, the IBZ Friedenshaus e.V. invites you to a one-day workshop with Jürgen Schlicher. Through interactive exercises, reflection and exchange in the group, the participants experience democratic processes not only theoretically, but very concretely.

What is it about?

Betzavta (Hebrew for Togetherness) supports people in developing a democratic attitude and strengthening the constructive handling of different interests and perspectives.

The focus is on questions such as:

How do we make fair decisions?
How do we deal with power and hierarchies?
How can exclusion be prevented and participation made possible?
How can conflicts be resolved constructively?
What role do minorities and majorities play in democratic processes?

The workshop not only provides in-depth insights into democratic principles, but also concrete methods for everyday life and professional practice.

The Betzavta method

A key element is the dilemma method. Based on realistic decision-making situations, different needs and interests are made visible. Instead of looking for quick compromises, the participants work together to develop creative solutions that meet as many perspectives as possible.

This experiential way of working opens up new perspectives and strengthens dialogue, empathy and democratic action.

Who is the workshop suitable for?

The workshop is aimed at all those who want to actively shape democracy, in particular:

Professionals from education, social work and administration
Employees of associations, initiatives and NGOs
Leaders and teams
Teachers and multipliers
People interested in organisational development, participation and social cohesion

Betzavta is equally suitable as a personal training as well as an impulse for team and organizational development.
